Darwin Nunez Scores First Goal As Liverpool Beat West Ham United

Darwin Nunez scored his first Liverpool goal at Anfield as the Reds defeated West Ham United 1-0 in Wednesday evening’s Premier League contest.

West Ham missed a penalty late in the first half through Jarrod Bowen, and Nunez’s 22nd-minute header was enough for Jurgen Klopp’s side to take three points.

The Reds are now seventh in the rankings, 11 points behind leaders Arsenal and seven points behind champions Manchester City.

When West Ham failed to clear their lines in the fifth minute, Roberto Firmino got the first half-chance of the game, but his shot was always drifting wide of the post.

Nunez tried his luck next, grabbing the ball on the half-volley in the 15th minute, but Hammers goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski saved well.

Nunez headed a fantastic cross from Kostas Tsimikas into the back of the goal in the 22nd minute, with the ball striking the ground before bouncing past Fabianski.

Nunez almost had another less than a minute later after a mix-up at the back including Ben Johnson, but Fabianski saved the Uruguay international’s strong attempt.

Mohamed Salah then missed the post with a shot in the 35th minute, as West Ham struggled to get out of their own half at Anfield.

However, Bowen’s attempt was stopped by Alisson Becker, and the Hammers missed the chance.

Early in the second half, Jordan Henderson fired one over the West Ham crossbar, then Nunez missed the goal with a thunderous shot shortly before the hour.

West Ham could have equalised in the 86th minute with Tomas Soucek, but James Milner made a great clearing, and Liverpool held on to gain another huge three points following Sunday’s victory over Manchester City.
