Darwin Nunez returned to form for Uruguay, scoring a hat-trick as they defeated Mexico 4-0.
Nunez, 24, had a rough end to the season for Liverpool, scoring only once in their final 11 league games amid allegations of a rift with departing manager Jurgen Klopp.Reported on social media.
However, he put up an incredible performance for Uruguay on Wednesday night, as Marcelo Bielsa’s team ramped up their preparations for the Copa America this summer.

In a pre-tournament friendly against Mexico in Denver, Nunez scored after seven minutes when he reacted quickly to poke home following a scramble in the box.
Man United winger Facundo Pellistri made it two shortly after, before Nunez combined with Maximiliano Araujo to put his team ahead 3-0 before halftime.
Nunez then tapped in a cross from Pellistri to complete his hat-trick in the 49th minute and he was soon replaced by Facundo Torres.
The striker’s treble brought his total to eight goals in his past five Uruguay outings.
‘I’m very pleased with the outcome because the team worked extremely well,’ Nunez remarked after the match.
‘For us, it wasn’t a friendly encounter; we came here with the idea of playing well and winning.’
Uruguay’s recent success comes amid a revival since former Leeds manager Bielsa took over in May 2023.
The Sky Blues had an ugly group stage exit at the 2022 World Cup, but under Bielsa, they have won eight of their last 12 games and are considered dark horses for the Copa America.
