Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has revealed that he supported Arsenal growing up.
The two teams have been paired together once again in the Champions League this season and will meet in the knockout stages for the third time in four years when the competition resumes in the new year.
With the first-leg at the Allianz Arena still at least a couple of months away, the Austrian international is already looking ahead and has expressed his excitement at facing the side which he liked the most during his childhood.
“For me, games against Arsenal are always beautiful because in my childhood they were my favourite team!,” he told Bild, as reported by Goal.
“Playing in London is also fantastic – almost as good as the Allianz Arena.”
Alaba scored in Bayern’s 5-1 win over the Gunners when the north London outfit visited Germany in the group stages last season. He was also involved in the team which lost the reverse fixture at the Emirates Stadium two weeks earlier.
This season under new manager Carlo Ancelotti, the 24-year-old has featured in all but one Champions League game and has been prominently used in his natural left-back role after been deployed at centre-half on numerous occasions by former boss Pep Guardiola.
