After being left off the team’s list of players to be retained for the upcoming season, David de Gea appears set to depart Manchester United this summer.
De Gea’s current contract expires on June 30, and has not been able to reach an agreement with the club on a new one. This might signal an end to De Gea’s 12-year tenure at Old Trafford.
According to United insiders, De Gea’s contractual future is looking bleak.
The 31-year-old has so far refused to accept a pay cut from his present wage of £375,000 per week.
Youth striker Mateo Mejia and Tom Huddlestone, a player-coach for United’s Under-21 team, are both on the club’s list of players to be kept. And De Gea was omitted, despite being in the same contractual position as the pair, suggesting the former Spain international will be on his way this summer.
If that is the case, Manchester United will need to recruit a new No.1 goalkeeper, with Tom Heaton and Nathan Bishop the only choices if De Gea left as a free agent, as expected.

Will De Gea Remain At Manchester United Next Season?
De Gea has 545 appearances for United, which places him fifth all-time on the club’s list.
However, it increasingly appears as though he has played his final match for the Red Devils.
He won the Golden Glove last season, awarded to the goalkeeper with the most Premier League clean sheets. His campaign was, however, marred by a series of high-profile and costly individual mistakes.
Ten Hag is known to want a goalkeeper who can play the ball out from the back with his feet, which De Gea is not capable of doing.

Only last month the United boss said he could not guarantee the Spaniard he would be No.1 next season if he stayed.
Against that backdrop, United have already been looking at replacements for De Gea.
Everton and England No.1 Jordan Pickford, Porto and Portugal’s first-choice Diogo Costa, as well as Inter Milan’s Cameroon stopper Andre Onana all on their short-list.
