Chelsea’s David Luiz has attacked quotes attributed to him on Twitter appearing to make fun of the French Ligue 1 and his time at Paris Saint Germain.
The Brazilian returned to Stamford Bridge on transfer deadline day, and around the same time as his return from France, a Twitter account called @SunGossip, quoted him as saying that he “wasted two years,” and that “it’s like playing FIFA on beginner level.”
The comments were picked up by multiple accounts on across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, but the Champions League winner in his last time in South-West London was quick to distance himself from the ‘malicious’ quotes.
Using his Facebook account, Luiz stated: “Dear Fans! A clarification! Be aware! The post made on 08.30.2016 hosted by the Twitter account “@SunGossip” and Facebook page account “@oddsbibletips” and the post made on 09.01.2016 hosted by the Instagram account “@visubal” contain untrue statements!”
“Some of which contain malicious falsehood and disrespectful words towards the French League. I never spoke with these accounts and I never gave an interview where I could have said this.”
The 29 year old arrived at in Paris from The Blues in 2014 for a fee of £50 million. In his time at the Parc des Princes, he won every domestic trophy on offer twice, including Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue. The financial might of PSG has led to many fans believing the Parisians have a monopoly on domestic football – and the quotes appear to take aim at the comfort in which club wins silverware.
“I have a tremendous respect to all French Federation of Football, Football teams, players and supporters.”
“I am not against freedom of speech and I recognise the value of fair publication. But be aware about the posts these social medias accounts been doing!”
The ostentatious defender made the unexpected return to Chelsea for a fee of around £34 million last week, and will be looking to focus on settling in with his old team mates and to put the mis-attributed quotes behind him.
