Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta insists David Silva is the best player he’s ever played alongside.
The Spanish playmaker was in fine form once again at the weekend as he kickstarted the 5-0 rout of Crystal Palace by netting his 50th goal for the club by taking full advantage of Martin Kelly’s poor clearance to break the deadlock after just two minutes.
Having joined the Etihad Stadium outfit from La Liga giants Valencia in the summer of 2010, the 31-year-old has gone on to become a firm fan favourite with his ability to create chances out of nothing and has been paid the biggest compliment by teammate Zabaleta.
“I’ve been saying this for years [that Silva is the best I’ve played with]. I am a lucky man,” Zabaleta told the club’s official website.
“When you play alongside those players you feel happy to play with them.
“For me, he’s one of the best players I’ve ever seen and we are so lucky to have David at Manchester City.”
Zabaleta’s international teammate is none other than Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi – regarded by many as the best player to ever play the game – so for him to hail Silva in such a way is strong praise indeed.
Silva has been operating in a much deeper central midfield role this season but that hasn’t stopped him from being an influence on City in an attacking sense as he’s created 76 chances, weighed in with seven assists and completed 1,164 passes in the Premier League.
