De Bruyne hits out at Hazard favouritism during his time at Chelsea

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne says it is ‘strange’ that he was not afforded the same opportunities at Chelsea as compatriot Eden Hazard.

The 25-year-old joined Chelsea in January 2012 from Genk but made just three apperances for the club before joining Wolfsburg in an £18million move in 2014.

The Belgian thrived in the Bundesliga and earned a £55million move to Manchester City in 2015, where he’s solidified his reputation as one of the Premier League’s best players.

Jose Mourinho opted to let De Bruyne leave Stamford Bridge after just six months back in west London and accused the Belgian of not wanting to stay and fight for his place.

However, De Bruyne refutes that claim and says the claim that he was too young to make it at Stamford Bridge is ‘strange’ given the Blues were regularly playing Hazard at the same point.

‘I think they (Chelsea) had a different view than I had of myself. I was young but also experienced,’ De Bruyne told the Daily Mail.

‘If I had come through the youth then maybe I would be happy to play 10 games there. As far as I was concerned, I was ready to play.

‘I have read that, for them at Chelsea, I was too young, but in my mind you are never too young. If you are ready you are ready.

‘I think Eden Hazard was the same age as me when he played so it’s a little bit strange to say this guy is young and the other guy is old enough to play. It’s just another way of saying that somebody isn’t good enough.’
