David de Gea is ready to quit Manchester United this summer if Louis van Gaal stays as manager, according to Daily Mail.
The Spain goalkeeper has grown disenchanted with life under the Dutchman, despite signing a new four-year contract at the start of the season.
Sources at Old Trafford say De Gea, who is wanted by Real Madrid, will press to make the move happen.
It promises to be a major issue for United. De Gea has been their star player during a season that has seen them miss out on qualification for the Champions League.
Meanwhile, United are discussing whether to press ahead with a deal to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is a free agent after quitting Paris Saint-Germain and has declared a desire to play in the Premier League.
United sent scouts to watch the Sweden striker, 34, in last week’s 1-1 draw at Bordeaux and they are now debating whether to make him an offer.
Reports in France on Monday claimed a move from Old Trafford had already been made for Ibrahimovic, who will play his final game for PSG in the French Cup final against Marseille on Saturday. But the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, described stories of a one-year contract offer as ‘not factual’.
After holding talks with Ibrahimovic and his representatives in March, the parties have been in contact again. He has a number of options, including interest from the USA, where there is the prospect of linking up with David Beckham’s Miami franchise in 2018.
United are one of the few clubs who can match Ibrahimovic’s financial demands. And it is thought his experience would help the club’s young players and boost United’s appeal.
Ibrahimovic’s status in world football also fits the club’s commercial policy.
