David De Gea is reportedly set to return to Old Trafford during a pre-season fixture between Fiorentina and Manchester United.
Following his departure from United in the summer of 2023, this will be the goalkeeper’s first return to the club.
When De Gea’s contract with the Red Devils ended at the end of the 2022–2023 season, he was freed after more than 500 games. United fell 2-1 to rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final, which was his last match for the 20-time English champions at Wembley Stadium.

His departure, however, had caused some confusion because United reportedly reached an agreement with the former Spanish international before reversing their initial position.
After taking a year off from the game, De Gea signed a contract with Serie A team Fiorentina at the beginning of this season. He later revealed his departure in an emotional social media post.
According to the Daily Express, later this year, when the former No. 1 returns to Old Trafford for a preseason friendly which United have confirmed will take place on the eve of the new Premier League season, on Saturday, August 9, supporters will have the opportunity to honor him.
In a statement released on the club website, Jason Wilcox, Manchester United’s technical director, said: “This final pre-season fixture is key to our preparations for the 2025/26 campaign.
“It will ensure the players have all had competitive game-time, against top opposition, in different environments, including Old Trafford, before the Premier League resumes.”
