‘Deal Agreed’: Arsenal And West Ham Target Set For £64.5 Million Deal, With ‘Medical Booked’

Arsenal and West Ham United have been given a setback in their search for a new striker, with Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán poised to join Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr, according to sources.

West Ham have had a £57 million deal turned down for the Colombian, who joined Villa from MLS club Chicago Fire two years ago in January 2023. Arsenal contacted Villa to discuss Duran’s availability, but the Gunners made no official offer. Duran was an unused replacement on Wednesday night as Unai Emery’s team defeated Celtic 4-2 in their penultimate Champions League game before the knockout round, securing a top-eight berth alongside Liverpool and Arsenal.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Duran has agreed to a £64.5 million move to Saudi Arabia, with a physical due for Thursday. The Italian journalist stated on X late on Wednesday: “Jhon Durán to Al Nassr, here we go! The story from earlier tonight has been confirmed, as documentation are being created. Durán accepts a long-term deal in which Aston Villa would earn a €77 million fixed fee plus additional funds. He has a medical appointment scheduled for tomorrow and will subsequently travel to Saudi Arabia.

Emery questioned Duran’s move

When asked about Duran’s future following their triumph over Celtic, Emery strongly implied that the striker could be on the move. He stated, “The club is working; we need to be wise and competitive. Of course, we are in the eyes of other powerful teams, leagues, and countries, such as Saudi Arabia. It is something I am proud of since we are improving and attracting players from other clubs who are willing to pay a premium for our services.

“Our goal here is to maintain our structure sensibly, and [maintaining our level] throughout time is the most challenging problem we face. To accomplish so, we must sometimes sell players while also attempting to replace those players with strong players, as well as developing and upgrading our own.

“I won’t know for sure if Jhon Duran is going until everything is finalized. If he departs, it’s excellent news for us because they’re offering good money, it’s good for him, and we’ve nurtured a young talent in two years to land this offer. It’s not just for the club, but also for the players and the squad; these conditions might be beneficial. I
