Barcelona’s summer transfer intentions are essentially a hypothesis up until they close deals. Although President Joan Laporta had stated that they would return to under the salary cap this summer and remove registration limitations, there’s a significant probability they won’t close the €130 million deficit from the beginning of the season.
According to Sport, Laporta hopes to add one big player this summer and use free agents to fill the rest of their needs, but even that will require sales of €200 million. As a result, Sporting Director Deco has begun to search for “creative solutions.” This summer will see some additions, but it’s more likely that they’ll be fill-ins than majors.

The former agent had first stated unequivocally that he did not want to add any more players above the age of thirty. Instead, he intended to trade players who were not playing as much and acquire a left winger and a quality pivot. Deco would breach the restriction he had set for himself, nonetheless, due to budgetary realities.
This summer, Jorginho of Arsenal could provide a different option for the pivot position, which Oriol Romeu has filled exclusively this year. Amadou Onana of Everton is the top target, although that trade appears improbable.
Ahead of Xavi Hernandez’s resignation, Laporta was beginning to receive some blowback from the fans in the stadium, something that generally provokes a reaction from the hierarchy. If Barcelona are again in dire straits, this summer, and with Xavi out the door, then it will no tbe long before the president is the one under pressure.
