Delph looking to build on Carabao Cup win

Everton midfielder Fabian Delph says he hopes their fourth round Carabao Cup win against Watford will act as a catalyst for their season. The Blues triumphed 2-0 against the Hornets in a match which has unofficially become the “Marco Silva” derby after he moved from Hertfordshire to Merseyside at the beginning of last season.
In what was a tight game on Tuesday night, Toffees defender Mason Holgate gave Everton the lead after 72 minutes, nodding in a cross from substitute Theo Walcott.
With Watford pressing late on, it was former Hornets star Richarlison who scored the decisive second goal on the counter-attack to see Everton head through to the last eight of the competition.
They have now been rewarded with a home game against Leicester City, which will take place on December 18.
It is only the second time they have gone beyond the fourth round of the competition in the last 11 years, having reached the semi-finals in 2016 before being defeated by Manchester City.
However, with some criticism heading their way following a below-par Premier League start this season, Delph is convinced the Watford win will help them get back on track in the top flight, starting with their Goodison Park meet up with Tottenham on Sunday afternoon. “We needed to step up against Watford after not getting the points we wanted at Brighton – and as well as getting the job done we needed a good performance,” Delph told evertontv. “But, ideally, we need to start picking up more points in the Premier League because we should be in a much better position than we are currently.”
Boss Silva has come under some pressure this season and that was not helped by their weekend 3-2 loss at Brighton when they were 2-1 up with 10 minutes to go.
They have been inconsistent this term and have been beaten in five of their last seven games.
After Tottenham, they go to Southampton on November 9 before the next international break.
