Dembele Refuses Man Of The Match Award Following Aston Villa Defeat

Paris Saint Germain forward, Ousmane Dembele reportedly refused to accept his Man of the Match award following his side’s defeat to Aston Villa in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final.

Despite the outcome, which saw PSG advance to the semi-finals 5–4 on aggregate, Dembele was in a rage during the match and was seen rejecting the award when a staff member gave it to him.

He then appeared with the award after he had bounded off the field, with his face expressionless.

At Villa Park, the Ligue 1 champions appeared to have the quarterfinal match under control when they took a 2-1 lead, but Villa mounted a spectacular comeback in the second half. Towards  the end of the match, PSG were clinging on, and Dembele bemoaned his team’s complacency.

He said: “We thought we were too good. At 2-1, we thought we were already qualified and that it was over. That’s how the Champions League goes. You face teams whose supporters are white-hot and they can turn the game on its head.”

PSG will play the winner of the match between Arsenal and Real Madrid in the last four with the Gunners leading 3-0 going into Wednesday’s second leg.

In order to finish the league season undefeated, the French champions must first win a match against Le Havre at home in Ligue 1.
