Depay nearing Manchester United exit with Everton ready to pounce

Manchester United flop Memphis Depay is nearing an exit from Old Trafford with Everton ready to pounce.

Depay is close to sealing a January switch to Goodison Park after struggling for first-team minutes under Jose Mourinho, report the Manchester Evening News.

Mourinho revealed he omitted five fit players from the trip to Zorya Luhansk last week to ‘protect’ them and the likelihood is he does not want to risk injury to Memphis and Schneiderlin out of fear it could jeopardise a new year move to Goodison Park.

The development comes after it emerged Schneiderlin, 27, was also on the brink of agreeing to reunite with his former Southampton manager Ronald Koeman.

Koeman confirmed his interest in Depay during the international fortnight last month and winger Yannick Bolasie’s long-term injury increased Everton’s need for another attacking winger.

“He’s a young player with individual qualities, like aggression and efficiency,” Koeman said. “I would like him in January. He is a good and interesting player. He has shown that in his early days at Manchester United.

“But more recently it’s been less. He needs to play more games.” Depay also posted a Snapchat on Thursday night with Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.

The M.E.N. reported last week Mourinho expected Depay and Schneiderlin to leave in the new year just 18 months on from their celebrated transfers to United.
