Diamond Academy blast Arsenal over failed Chukwueze deal

Diamond Football Academy have laid into Arsenal after the Gunners reportedly pulled out of a deal to sign Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze despite the teenager having already agreed personal terms and done a medical.

Reacting to the controversy surrounding the transfer of the teenage sensation, the General Manager of the Umuahia based amateur side Victor Apugo, slammed the North London giants for their unprofessional conduct in their pursuit of Chukwueze and revealed it was rather them that decided pull out of the deal not Arsenal.

He said: “Diamond Academy pulled out of the deal with Arsenal, not the other way round as they claim.

“They made an offer of £1.5million and we accepted, but when they sent the final draft a lot of things were missing. Example, there was no sell-on clause no matter the amount they sell him in future.

“Chukwueze has so many offers from Europe, so we can’t take a slave offer from Arsenal. We wrote them that we are not interested anymore because the deal they gave was fraudulent and we refused to accept it.

Apugo also alleged that Arsenal were illegally contacting their player and his parents behind their backs, encouraging him to find a means of leaving Diamond Academy.

“It is appalling that a club like Arsenal will stoop so low to the extent of calling our player from the back, telling him they want to deal with his parents directly,” Apugo continued.

“Arsenal are only interested in just coming to Africa to pick up a talent, they don’t care about developing the game here.”
