Borussia Dortmund have reportedly set Manchester United a deadline of 13 days if they want to complete a sensational £110million deal for Jadon Sancho.
The 20-year-old is due back in Dortmund on Thursday for the start of their pre-season training before the Bundesliga kicks off again in mid-September.
Dortmund want any deal for the England international done by August 10 when they leave for a pre-season training camp in Switzerland, even though the transfer window will stay open until October 5.
However, according to Dailymail, United will refuse to meet Dortmund’s current valuation of the player despite preparing a move for the England international.
Sancho remains United’s No 1 priority in the transfer window, but the Old Trafford side are yet to make a formal offer, with sources telling Sportsmail that reports in Germany of an opening bid of £89m being rejected are wide of the mark.
The England international, who joined Dortmund from City for £8m in 2017, has less than two years left on his contract at Dortmund and is keen to leave for United.
United do have more money to spend after qualifying for next season’s Champions League following their victory against Leicester on the final day of the Premier League season.
But they are reticent to splash out a fee that is double what Chelsea paid to sign Timo Werner from Red Bull Leipzig and what Bayern Munich spent to take Leroy Sane back to the Bundesliga from Manchester City.
United will take a similar stance over Aston Villa’s £80m demand for Jack Grealish after the Midlands club avoided relegation.
United are in the market for Grealish but he remains less of a priority than Sancho, especially given the increasing probability that Paul Pogba will remain with the club.
Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also wants a new centre-back but will first have to offload some defenders with Marcos Rojo set to leave and a question mark hanging over the future of Chris Smalling – with Roma reportedly struggling to meet United’s asking price – and Phil Jones.
