Borussia Dortmund winger Marco Reus has been ruled out until April after tearing muscle fibres in the back of his thigh during his side’s 6-2 thrashing of Bayer Leverkusen.
Reus, who has endured much misfortune with injuries in recent seasons, will miss Dortmund’s games against Hertha Berlin, Benfica and Ingolstadt.
As reported by the club’s official website, Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel said: “It’s a real blow, because over the last few weeks and in particular in the opening stages today, which I felt were somewhat sluggish, Marco was the one who consistently got us going, who took the responsibility, who was alert.
“He has been incredibly stable for weeks now, he’s been playing at a high level and is a very important character.
“It’s an enormous loss that takes the shine off the win.”
The Germany international has been restricted to just eleven Bundesliga appearances so far this season, but he has still managed to make something of an impact during that time, and has created 18 chances, while mustering two goals.
Dortmund, who are also currently without midfielder Mario Gotze due to injury, are in third place in the Bundesliga table, 13 points adrift of leaders Bayern Munich.
Tuchel’s side were hugely impressive as they prevailed past Leverkusen. Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring, with a brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and goals from Christian Pulisic, Andre Schurrle and Raphael Guerreiro helping their cause.
