Borussia Dortmund will make a late decision on the fitness of goalkeeper Roman Burki ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League clash with Inter Milan. Burki has been struggling with a knee injury, but was able to train with the rest of his BVB team-mates ahead of the San Siro clash.
Lucien Favre was in a confident mood when he addressed the media in his pre-match press conference, but still said a late decision would be made. “It should be okay, but it’s not yet totally certain”, he said.
Meanwhile, Dortmund now face a crucial double-header against the Italian side, which could ultimately decide who makes it through the group along with Barcelona.
Barca and Borussia currently sit top of Group F with four points each, but Inter could draw level with a victory against BVB, and Favre is well aware of how important the game is.
A draw in the San Siro would be seen as a positive result, and Dortmund will be looking to leave Milan with something to show for their effort. “There are still four matches. A lot can still happen in every group,” Favre said. “It’s a very important match for my team. That’s why we need to be totally focused on our game.”
Inter may have struggled in the Champions League so far, picking up just one point from two games, but they are going well in Serie A and sit second behind Juventus. “Everyone knows we’ll be up against a very, very good side,” warned Favre. “We watched several matches, we know this team. They’re very efficient and strong in defence.”
