Dragons snap up Tomkins

Catalans Dragons have agreed a deal to sign second-row Joel Tomkins on a two-year deal. The 32-year-old captained Hull KR to Super League safety this season but was allowed to leave the club on compassionate grounds in September. Tomkins made 35 appearances for the Robins in his 18-month spell with the club and had previously been a Super League Grand Final winner with Wigan Warriors in 2010 and 2016. Tomkins will now join Catalans and link up with his younger brother Sam, who moved to the French side last season and scored nine tries in 26 appearances. Ahead of the 2020 season, elder brother Joel admits he looking forward to representing the Dragons under Steve McNamara, and says he has always been impressed with their ambition. “Since playing against the Dragons in their first-ever Super League game in 2006, I have always admired the club’s ambition to grow and achieve success,” Tomkins said. “I am determined to do what I can to help the club in the coming years.”
