Eddie Howe Shuns Jurgen Klopp’s Claims On Top 4 Race

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has refuted claims that he and his team are being “hunted” by Liverpool in the competition for a Champions League spot.

On April 9, Liverpool were 12 points behind the Magpies and Manchester United. But after winning their last seven league games albeit playing an additional game, they are now only one point behind. On Thursday, third-placed Magpies host Brighton & Hove Albion in their game-in-hand.

Prior to Monday night’s 3-0 victory against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp stated that the teams currently behind league leaders Man City and Arsenal would be happier if they were not being chased.

Howe has now responded to those accusations by saying he is not under any pressure.

“I don’t feel like we’re being hunted. I don’t feel that emotion. It’s us against ourselves, really. That’s how I see it. It’s us trying to be the best we can be,” Howe said, as reported by Liverpool Echo.

“I’ve not focused on any other team all season. In my experience, I knew Liverpool were never far away because they are a top team and they are capable of going on runs of wins.

“They are very similar to Manchester City, where they can win a group of games without blinking. They have got that experience. For us, we can’t look at it or compare ourselves to Liverpool. We just have to look at us.”
