Mohamed Salah could feature in the World Cup group stage after the Egyptian Football Association announced his shoulder injury should keep him out for a maximum of three weeks.
Salah has undergone assessment and treatment in Valencia, Spain after landing on his shoulder following a heavy challenge with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos in the UEFA Champions League final.
Liverpool believe he will be out around three weeks though Egypt had hoped it could be as little as 10 days.
‘Mohamed Salah will be out for between two to three weeks because of his shoulder ligaments injury,’ Abou-Rida told DRN radio station.
‘His participation against Uruguay is difficult, but we are trying to make him fit for the World Cup opener.
‘He will be out of training for a while to undergo a rehabilitation programme.’
Egypt are in group A with hosts Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay. They start on June 15, before facing Russia and Saudi Arabia on June 19 and June 25.
The Liverpool forward suffered the injury in the first half of the Reds’ defeat by Real Madrid in Saturday’s Champions League final.
A statement on the EFA’s Facebook page read: ‘Dr Mohamed Abu Ula confirmed that the period of absence of Salah due to injury will not exceed three weeks.’
The Pharaohs secured their place at the tournament courtesy of Salah, who scored a last minute winner in their play-off clash against Congo.
Salah struck from the penalty spot to wrap up a 2-1 victory, and help his nation book their place in a first World Cup tournament since 1990.
