Luke Shaw and Trent Alexander-Arnold have defended England captain Harry Kane after he was heavily criticized for his performances at the 2024 European Championship.
After leading his country since the 2018 World Cup, Kane has only scored twice in Germany thus far and many have questioned his place in Gareth Southgate’s offensive lineup given his overall performances.
Shaw emphasized that the squad still has complete backing for their captain, Kane, despite some requests for him to be benched for Wednesday’s semi-final matchup with the Netherlands.
“When he’s on the pitch he makes other players feel positive,” Shaw stated. Since he’s our top goal scorer, I believe that when he is on the field, we all feel really good.

In agreement with Shaw, fellow defender Alexander-Arnold stated that the striker offers something special to the group.
Alexander-Arnold stated, “Anyone facing England would prefer to see Harry Kane not playing.” “He is obviously a threat to you.
