Enzo Maresca Doubles Back On Title Race Claim After Chelsea Defeated Brentford

Enzo Maresca has reiterated that Chelsea is not in the Premier League title race, despite sliding two points behind leaders Liverpool after a 2-1 win against Brentford on Sunday.

Marc Cucurella opened the scoring at Stamford Bridge, but was sent off after the final whistle, and Nicolas Jackson also scored.

The Blues have been in excellent form in recent weeks, winning their previous five top-flight games, and many analysts believe they are currently in a title race.

Maresca, on the other hand, has downplayed their chances of winning the trophy, and this has not changed despite closing the gap on Arne Slot’s team, which has a game in hand.

After the win, Chelsea manager Maresca blamed Bryan Mbeumo’s late consolation goal on the outcome, saying: “No matter how many games we win, I don’t think we’re ready to compete for the title.”

‘On 90 minutes, we have a throw-in and surrender a goal. A team that knows how to win titles will not concede that goal.

‘That is why I continue to stress that we are not prepared for titles. Even if you don’t believe me.

‘I’d welcome the pressure of competing for the crown. But we cannot concede the goal and open the game, giving them the opportunity to score a point here.

Meanwhile, Maresca praised goalkeeper Robert Sanchez during his post-match press conference.
