The goalkeeping coach impressed Vincent Kompany at Burnley, which secured him a move to Amsterdam two months ago. The trade had been put on hold after Kompany joined Bayern Munich, but United will try to reach an agreement with Ajax as soon as possible.

Ten Rouwelaar is recognized as a modern coach that encourages goalkeepers to play from the back one. He will now collaborate with United’s shot-stoppers Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir, and Tom Heaton ahead of the new season.

The 43-year-old previously helped Kompany win the Championship with the Clarets in 2023, coaching Arijanet Muric throughout the season. Kompany acquired Ten Rouwelaar and him from Anderlecht in 2020.

Last summer, United made a huge move to replace their established goalkeeper David de Gea, who had been the club’s No. 1 for more than a decade. Onana was brought in for a large sum of money and struggled at first, making a series of high-profile errors, many of which resulted in goals.
