Erik ten Hag hugged an airport employee as he bid Manchester farewell after the Dutchman was fired as Manchester United manager on Monday.
Ten Hag was fired by United after Sunday’s 2-1 loss to West Ham at the London Stadium, which put the 54-year-old’s two and a half-year tenure as manager to an end and left the team in a pitiful 14th position in the Premier League standings.
In a short statement, United announced that Erik ten Hag had resigned as manager of the Manchester United men’s first team and Ruud van Nistelrooy had been named as the squad’s temporary manager.

“The team won the FA Cup in 2024 and the Carabao Cup in 2023 under Erik’s leadership after he was hired in April 2022.
We hope Erik has a bright future and are appreciative of everything he has done while working with us.”
When the news broke, Ten Hag was seen trembling in the backseat of a car that was leaving United’s Carrington training facility on Monday.
He was driven to Manchester Airport to catch a flight back to his home country of Holland, reports Mirror.
Prior to the Monday afternoon trip from Manchester to the Netherlands, he was spotted embracing airport personnel and getting aboard the aircraft.
