Despite Manchester United’s disappointing ninth-place finish in the Premier League in 2023/24, Erik ten Hag enters the season’s first game against Fulham with’very high expectations’ for his team.
Ten Hag says that his team ‘want to go for trophies’ this season, as the Dutchman aims to add to the two titles he has already won in his two years at Old Trafford.
Last season’s amazing FA Cup victory was United’s high point in an otherwise disastrous season. United fans will be hopeful Ten Hag can steer their squad to additional trophies this season, while also aiming for Champions League qualification.

United struggled for consistency in the league last season, which was exacerbated by a slew of injuries across the board. With players back healthy and available, as well as several new acquisitions, Ten Hag believes his squad can compete for trophies on all fronts.
On team news
During the press conference, Ten Hag announced that new arrivals Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui ‘will both be in the squad’ for the upcoming game against Fulham.
De Ligt may partner Lisandro Martinez at centre-back, while Mazraoui could play right-back, his natural position, or cover for the injured Luke Shaw at left-back, a position he has frequently filled for Morocco.
The two, who joined from Bayern Munich in a double transfer on Tuesday, will be eager to make an early impact at Old Trafford. Both players have previously played for Ten Hag at Ajax and will be eager to get their United careers off to a strong start.
