Erik Ten Hag Denies Victory Over Coventry On Penalties Was ‘Embarrassment’

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, would not acknowledge that his team’s thrilling victory against Coventry City in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley made him look foolish.

United led 3-0 after 70 minutes and looked to be coasting to a spot in the championship game, but three goals were given up in the last minutes of play, causing the game to conclude in a draw at the end of normal time.

Victor Torp’s goal in the final minute of extra time gave Coventry City fans hope that they had won the match and completed an amazing comeback, but VAR called the goal offside, forcing the match to go to penalties.Reported By Sky sport.

Despite United missing their first effort through Casemiro, Coventry proceeded to miss two of their own, to allow the Premier League side to secure a 4-2 win in the shoot-out.

“It is an achievement to reach the final two years in a row,” Ten Hag said after the game. “I see the mistakes we make but it is not an embarrassment.”

“We can play on very high levels, but we can go to very low levels in the same game. I have to teach my players. We have to do better on such occasions. On several occasions, we let each other down. Today we got away with it.”

United have now reached a third domestic cup final under Ten Hag, and a second consecutive FA Cup final, but the Dutchman admitted he had “mixed feelings.”

“The way we did it isn’t OK. We should have managed it better but it’s a huge performance. If you analyse the game we controlled 75 minutes but then allowed them to return into the game.”
