Erik ten Hag refused Paul Scholes’ request to rest players in readiness for this weekend’s Premier League action.

Due to Casemiro’s first-half dismissal, both teams were responsible for a number of missed opportunities.
The outcome was a disaster for United’s ambitions to tighten their hold on third position. Which ultimately mean a top-four finish is likely to be secured.

The team is still in competition on four fronts; they will encounter Fulham in the FA Cup quarterfinals next week and are still in the Europa League.
Ten Hag has already led United to win in the EFL Cup this season, their first trophy in six seasons.
With a 4-1 victory over Spanish club Real Betis at Old Trafford on Thursday, United is also in a strong position to win through to the round of eight in the European competition.
Despite United’s positive performance in the encounter, Scholes was critical of some of the players’ performance during the game.

He [Ten Hag] likes players having rhythm, but with the schedule and the amount of games they’ve played, some of these players need a rest now.
“I thought Shaw looked like he needed a rest tonight, Casemiro looks like he needs a rest.
They can give a few young players a taste of European football [next week] and hopefully that will stand them in good stead for the future.”
