Erik ten Hag ‘Prefers Signing Three Forwards’ Over Joao Felix

Erik ten Hag ‘Prefers Signing Three Forwards’ Over Joao Felix

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reportedly does not regard Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix as his one of his top three transfer wish-list.

The 22-year-old has struggled to make an impression at the Wanda Metropolitano since leaving Benfica for a fee of £114.5m three years ago.

Felix has 29 goals and 18 assists in 124 appearances for Diego Simeone’s team, though he has not been a regular starter in the final third this season.

The Portugal international is under contract with the capital club until the summer of 2026, but he is expected to leave in January to end his ill-fated spell in Madrid.

Felix’s chances of joining Man United appear to be low, as The Mirror reports that he is not even among Ten Hag’s top three attacking targets for 2023.

The Red Devils are widely anticipated to look for a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo next year, and the report claims that Ten Hag prefers a range of other options over Felix.

One of them is Lille and Canada talisman Jonathan David, who helped guide Les Dogues to the Ligue 1 victory in 2020-21 and has nine goals from 12 top-flight games this season.

A brilliant performance at the World Cup for Canada might possibly spark interest in the 22-year-old, who is under contract with Lille until 2025 but is slated to leave at the close of the season.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrick Schick is also said to be a top target for the Red Devils.

Finally, Lyon attacker Moussa Dembele, who has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in 2020, is the third and final name on Ten Hag’s wishlist.
