Eriksen Points Finger Of Blame For Man United Loss To Wolves

Manchester United midfielder, Christian Eriksen has reportedly blamed the Red Devils defeat to Wolves to lack of match sharpness in front of goal, thereby dismissing suggestion that fatigue from their Europa League exploits played a part.

Only 63 hours had passed since the Red Devils, led by Ruben Amorim, defeated Lyon 5–4 in extra time to advance to the Europa League semi-finals last Thursday.

Amorim put preparations for the forthcoming semi-final matchup against Athletic Club ahead of domestic league matches by making five changes to the squad in order to handle the pressure of the fierce European match.

Despite the short turnaround time, United played admirably, but Pablo Sarabia scored a game-winning free kick to give Wolves a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Express, Eriksen attributed the loss to a shortfall in finishing rather than the tight schedule. “I think it was pretty easy to get over,” said the veteran playmaker. “I think obviously we changed a lot of the team from Thursday… we had our chances (on Sunday).

“No matter if we played Thursday or not, I think we had enough energy to win the game and, in the end, it was just small details. We weren’t good enough in the last end.

“It is football, in a nutshell. Sometimes if you have a good game but don’t score any goals, then the opposition will always have a chance to take the lead and take the win. Unfortunately, they did that.”

United’s next match will be a Premier League clash against Bournemouth at the Vitality stadium.
