Erling Haaland disclosed that in 2016, he was on the verge of joining a Champions League team.
Before Manchester City resumes their Champions League campaign on Wednesday, Haaland spoke with reporters on Tuesday.
Sport Bible adds that he might have been lining up for them if events had gone differently. They play Copenhagen in the second leg of the round of 16.
Haaland was on the verge of signing a contract with Copenhagen prior to joining Molde, having tried out for the team in 2016.
But not everyone at Copenhagen was in favor of him, and the transfer fell through.
The Blues player was given a Copenhagen shirt with his name and number nine on it even though he did not participate in the Danish team.
Erling Haaland Failed Transfer
Speaking about his unsuccessful transfer to Copenhagen, the Man City striker remembered:
“I was on trial there in 2016. A couple of guys from the club wanted me then, but not everyone.
“It didn’t happen – sad for them! Maybe good for me, because I went to Molde and it was a good choice.
“But I like Copenhagen, it’s a nice club and I’ve a couple of friends who live in Copenhagen. They’re standing behind the goal at a lot of games. They enjoy it.”
The 23-year-old added:
“I was interested in joining them, yeah. It was to join the Under-19s. Of course I was interested, which is why I went there. I remember speaking to Stale Solbakken, who was the coach.
“I even got a shirt, a No.9 Haaland shirt. I still have it at home, actually. It never happened, my destiny was another way and it’s been a decent way so far.”

Molde gained Haaland by securing his services; Red Bull Salzburg eventually signed him. It was Copenhagen’s loss.
Then Borussia Dortmund made a move, and in the summer of 2022, Man City signed the Norwegian.
In his first season at the Etihad, he scored an incredible 52 goals in all competitions. So far this season, he has scored an impressive 28 goals.
