Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo hopes the Premier League will not use the five-substitute rule next season.
The rule was initially introduced on a temporary basis due to the difficulties of completing the season in just over a month, following the suspension of football caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The Premier League have the option to carry on using five substitutes next season after FIFA said the rule can continue until August 2021.
The move is thought to favour the wealthiest clubs with the biggest squads as it gives them greater room for manoeuvre during matches.
Wolves boss Nuno said: ‘I understand the decision was made based on the effects of the pandemic and with the absence of competition during three months, it makes sense. But for the future, I don’t see why.
‘It’s not about who benefits; I just don’t see the reason behind the decision. If we’re talking about getting fans back in the ground and things going back to normal, that’s a sign that everything should go back to normal – the subs, water breaks, these things.’
Wolves face Crystal Palace on Monday knowing a win would allow them to better their points total from last season.
They still have a chance to qualify for next season’s Champions League, via the Europa League. Wolves face the second leg of their last-16 tie against Olympiacos in March, after drawing 1-1 in Athens in the first game in March.
Nuno added: ‘We are improving and always trying to become better, knowing it is a difficult season of ups and downs. It is a long process of building and improving and we are still on the way.
