Ever Banega has confirmed that he will be joining Inter Milan this summer, after leaving Sevilla last month.
Following two years at the Spanish club, Banega revealed that the transfer had been officially agreed by the two parties, calling his decision to leave “tough”.
“Yes, I’m going to Inter. We already found a deal and we made everything official with the club, now it’s just a matter of waiting,” the 27-year-old told AS.
“In Sevilla I was very happy. I enjoyed two spectacular years that allowed us to win the Europa League twice. We did well in the championship too. I chose to leave, it was a tough decision. I found my former coach from Valencia, Unai Emery, and he was able to bring out the best in me. Fortunately we parted ways in friendship.”
The Argentine midfielder, who scored five goals and registered two assists in La Liga this term, was part of the Sevilla team that won the Europa League in both the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons, after joining from Valencia.
Banega featured in 45 games for Sevilla this season, scoring in their first game against Barcelona in the UEFA Super Cup.
He also registered goals in both the Champions League and Copa del Rey, playing in the final of the latter in a 2-0 loss to Barcelona – his last game for the club. Banega created the most chances in the Sevilla squad this season, playing 42 key passes.
He’s been included in Argentina’s squad for the 2016 Copa America, which kicked off at the weekend as Colombia beat hosts USA in the opening game. Argentina start their campaign against Chile in California tomorrow morning, at the Levi’s Stadium.
