Everton 2-0 Watford

Everton booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup thanks to a 2-0 win against Premier League rivals Watford at Goodison Park. Toffees’ boss Marco Silva made five changes from their 3-2 defeat at Brighton as Seamus Coleman, Yerry Mina, Fabian Delph, Moise Kean and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all returned.
Craig Cathcart, Roberto Pereyra and Nathaniel Chalobah were the only players to remain in the starting XI from their home draw with Bournemouth.
Everton started the brighter of the sides with Calvert-Lewin heading wide in the second minute and Kean had an effort well blocked in the area by Cathcart moments later.
On 18 minutes Domingos Quina had a sight of goal for the Hornets, but scuffed his shot side from around 18 yards.
Silva was hit by an injury blow as Mina was forced to hobble off with Michael Keane coming on to replace him four minutes before half-time.
Chances continued to be at a premium after the break, although Keane went close on 61 minutes with a header from a Lucas Digne free-kick which was straight at Heurelho Gomes.
That sparked the game into life with Andre Gomes unfortunate to see his effort blocked on the line with the Hornets’ keeper beaten and then Alex Iwobi watched as his 66^th-minute strike from the edge of the box crash back off the woodwork.
Digne was denied on 69 minutes as his free-kick took a deflection off the Watford defensive wall and flew over via the top of the crossbar.
Everton’s pressure finally paid off on 72 minutes when Theo Walcott kept the ball alive after a free-kick and put a cross back into the middle for Mason Holgate who thumped his header past Gomes.
Richarlison put the icing on the cake in stoppage time against his former club as he surged into the area and beat Gomes with a strike into the bottom corner.
