Everton’s Ben Godfrey  Close To Joining Atalanta

Ben Godfrey has traveled to Italy for a medical after Everton agreed a £10 million price to sell him to Atalanta.

The defender, who had also drawn interest from Lyon, is likely to join the Europa League winners in a surprise move. Reported By Sky Sport.

Godfrey had only one year left on his contract at Goodison Park, and Everton faced losing him on a free transfer if he was not sold this summer.

The 26-year-old has 93 Everton appearances, but started only 13 Premier League games last season and 10 in 2022-23.

Godfrey had a fantastic debut season at Goodison Park following his £20 million move from Norwich in 2020, winning two England caps. However, injuries and Covid have hampered his Everton career, and he is not a regular under current manager Sean Dyche.

While Everton are willing to let Godfrey depart, they have turned down a £35 million bid from Manchester United for centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite and renewed contracts with veteran full-backs Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman.

Godfrey will be Everton’s second summer sale, following Lewis Dobbin’s £9 million transfer to Aston Villa, who is now set to play Champions League games for Atalanta next season.
