In actuality, Messi has 1243 goals and assists in all club and national competitions (at the time of writing). According to current reports, he is the first football player in history to achieve the 1200 milestone.
With that being the case, it feels like a good time to consider his achievements. And so, his career has been broken down into four sections – his three clubs and international career – with all of his key stats tabled up for every season he’s played.
Messi’s stint at Barcelona famously began with a contract scrawled on a napkin, growth hormones, and a lot of homesickness. That season, the Argentine played nine times and scored one goal, which was assisted by Brazilian sensation Ronaldinho.
Over the next several seasons, his talent would become apparent to those outside of Barcelona, and he would go supernova in 2008/09. With 38 goals and 19 assists, Messi would lead his club to a treble, which included a brace in the Champions League final.
