Evra reveals frustration over Tevez’s move to Manchester City

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has admitted he was frustrated when Carlos Tevez joined Manchester City after spending two years together at Old Trafford.

The Argentinian joined United on a two-year loan deal from Premier League side West Ham and was part of a successful era in the club’s history, forming a formidable partnership with Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Dimitar Berbatov.

And Evra has said he was not happy when he heard the news of Tevez’s decision to join local rivals Man City.

“Carlos Tevez was my close friend. But I was not pleased when he joined Manchester City in 2009. I was really annoyed because he was a great player,” said Evra, as reported on United’s website.

“There are two sides to every story, I understand that and football can be complicated, but I didn’t like it when he was on the banner saying ‘Welcome to Manchester’ after he signed for City and I told him so.”

“‘Carlito!’ I said. ‘What are you doing? This shirt isn’t you! I have been to your house and you still have a picture of yourself wearing a United shirt near your pool table! You are a Red. You know deep in your heart that you are a Red.’”

The pair, who were also teammates for a year at Italian giants Juventus, won the 2008 Champions League trophy together, as well as two Premier League’s, a League Cup and two Community Shields.

Tevez spent four turbulent years at City, in which he was named captain before spending almost five months away from the team after reportedly refusing to play after being named on the bench by Roberto Mancini in a Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.
