Ex-Barcelona Star Questioned For Sexual Assault

Former Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal has been questioned by the police over sexual assault charges in Chile.

According to Police Colonel Gerardo Aravena as reported by Football Espana, the 37-year-old who has played for Barcelona, Juventus as well as Bayern Munich was arrested on Monday night in Santiago de Chile for an unspecified sexual offense.

“He was transferred to the police station within the context of the first proceedings and investigations with a view to carrying out identity tests and then he was able to continue with his activities,” Aravena told local media.

Vidal was set free and has not yet been charged with any crimes. The incident happened in Vitacura, a Santiago neighborhood, when the former Inter Milan star and his Colo Colo teammates were celebrating Lucas Cepeda and Vicente Pizarro’s birthdays as well as their victory over Deportes Iquique.

Aravena could not provide any additional information, but he did state that the event included a group of players and that the crime under investigation is sexual in nature.

Colo Colo have not yet made a statement regarding the situation, and no arrests have been made.

During his time in Europe, Vidal won the Scudetto, Laliga, and the Bundesliga titles among other major honours.
