Ex-Chelsea defender Carvalho joins Oscar and Hulk at Shanghai SIPG

Ricardo Carvalho has become the latest player to move out to the Chinese Super League, after joining Shanghai SIPG on a reported one-year deal.

The Portugal international’s most recent spell was with French giants Monaco, where he spent three years.

The 38-year-old managed 117 appearances for Monaco over three seasons and actually appeared in more games in the last campaign (43) than he had ever before for the French outfit.

However, he was released in the summer on a free and has since been on the hunt for a new club, with Shanghai SIPG now taking a chance on the experienced defender.

Carvalho, a former Chelsea and Real Madrid player, joins the likes of Hulk and Oscar, who both ply their trade in the Chinese Super League with Shanghai SIPG.

After starting his career with Porto and helping them win the Champions League in 2004, Carvalho went on to join Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.

Carvalho then moved to Spain to join Real Madrid, once again linking up with Mourinho, where he won La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

The centre-back will link-up with another former Chelsea man in manager Andre Villas-Boas, who is currently in charge of Shanghai SIPG.
