Ex-Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro demands apology from Mourinho

Eva Carneiro’s lawyer has suggested that ex-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho should issue a public apology to the club’s former doctor.

Carneiro attended a private employment tribunal in Croydon today, with the 42-year-old claiming constructive dismissal against the London club. She was accompanied by her husband and her legal team. Carneiro has also taken legal action against Mourinho for alleged victimisation and discrimination.

If the settlement proposed by the judge isn’t agreeable to all three parties – Carneiro, Mourinho and Chelsea – then the case will proceed to a public employment tribunal, which would take place on June 6th.

If such a scenario transpired, then texts and emails exchanged between parties would most probably be made public, with the key figures in question, including Carneiro and Mourinho, possibly being called upon as witnesses.

Mary O’Rourke QC, Carneiro’s barrister, told ITV News: “We’re not expecting a resolution today. The two sides are so far apart financially. And we want Mr Mourinho to make a public apology.”

Carneiro left her position as Chelsea’s first-team doctor last September, having been heavily criticised by Mourinho for entering the field of play to treat winger Eden Hazard during the opening game of the season against Swansea City.

Mourinho was livid in the wake of the incident against Swansea, and took the decision to prevent Carneiro from being part of the first-team staff.

Mourinho is hoping to return to management next season, with Manchester United suggested as a potential destination.
