The new Real Madrid season has presented a number of difficulties, one of which has been the limitation of options at center defense.
Los Blancos have suffered in that area since saying goodbye to Nacho Fernandez at the end of the last campaign, particularly because David Alaba is currently sidelined due to an ACL injury.

Due to circumstances, the manager’s only natural center halves are Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger. Although the two have stepped up, it is obvious that the department would have benefited from greater depth.
Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger was questioned about William Saliba, a player the team is rumored to be interested in.
“Saliba to Madrid? It would be wonderful to have Saliba. He’s among the top three center backs in the world, along with Gabriel and Van Dijk,” he said, praising the Arsenal player.
Saliba’s name came up as a possibility that the board was considering to fill the center-back vacuum that was created when Los Blancos were unable to sign Leny Yoro last summer.
Arsenal insisted that the young Frenchman was an essential component of Mikel Arteta’s plans and that he was non-transferable, despite Real Madrid’s interest, Madrid Universal.
In fact, fearing that the Spanish giants would steal him, the Premier League heavyweights hastened negotiations to extend his contract right away.
It’s unclear if Florentino Perez and company would try to sign Saliba next summer, but the transaction will be difficult because of his 2027 contract. He is a consistent starter for one of the best clubs in Europe.
