Former Manchester United player, Jesse Lingard has been given a six-month driving ban and fined £900 (€1,050) for failing to provide information to identify the driver of his Range Rover, which was pulled over by police for speeding.
In a quick hearing, the 30-year-old who saw his contract with Nottingham Forest expire in June, showed up at Manchester Magistrates’ Court and admitted the offense.
He spoke only to establish his identity and make his guilty plea.
In August last year, Lingard’s car was seen driving too fast in Stretford, Manchester.
According to the Irish Examiner, Greater Manchester Police sent him a letter requesting the contact information of the driver. But he declined to comply.
What Did Lingard’s Lawyer Say About The Incident?
Lingard’s attorney, Frank Rogers, said that although Lingard was not the driver of the speeding car. He had somehow missed the letter asking him to supply the driver’s information.
Mr Rogers said: “He was at the time of the speeding offence living in rented accommodation in Nottingham, where he was then playing. The documents went out to his then permanent address, in Altrincham.
“Mr Lingard has accepted that the system in place at that time just was not good enough to protect him and deal with processing his mail.
“So when the speeding offence was committed in August last year in Stretford, Mr Lingard was in Nottingham. He was not the driver.”

District Judge Jane Hamilton told Lingard, “Your licence will be endorsed with six penalty points. The six already recorded against you in 2022 count, so you are liable to be disqualified under the totting up process.
“So you are disqualified for six months. That begins immediately.”
In addition to the court expenses of £200 (€233), Lingard received a fine of £900 (€1,050), plus a surcharge of £360 (€420).
