Ex-Manchester United player claims Red Devils can still overtake Chelsea to win the Premier League

Manchester United can still catch Chelsea in the race for the Premier League title this season, according to former Red Devil Paul Parker.

The Red Devils have endured something of a stuttering start to life under new manager Jose Mourinho following the Portuguese coach’s appointment at Old Trafford in the summer.

Manchester United have shown significant signs of improvement in recent weeks and are currently on a 16-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

However, despite their improvements, the Red Devils are still sixth in the Premier League table and 12 points behind leaders Chelsea with 13 games left to play this season.

But despite that sizeable gap, former Manchester United man Parker feels that the Red Devils can still win the Premier League – but not before lifting the EFL Cup trophy at Wembley this weekend.

Speaking to 888sport, Parker said: “You have to say Manchester United are winning games now and are definitely competing for a Champions League spot especially with the confidence you get from an unbeaten run.

“And who knows, with a lot of luck Chelsea can still be caught because we’re not into March yet and there are still enough points.

“The main thing is they are competing which is what we weren’t getting in previous seasons.”

“The League Cup is always big when you need to win something and Manchester United need to win something. Mourinho knows how important it is because he knows what it means for a big club to win trophies. The FA Cup aside it’s been a while now.”

Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season.
