Former Manchester United and City goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel castigated summer signing, Sofyan Amrabat for his sloppiness after United were severely thrashed by Man City at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Both Erling Haaland and Phil Foden scored goals as City easily won the derby for the third time in the previous four encounters. Thanks to a Haaland penalty, the Blues led 1-0 at the interval and continued from where they left off after the break.
After United fell behind 1-0 at the half, manager Erik ten Hag decided to go forward in the midfield by bringing in Mason Mount in place of Amrabat. The player, who had joined the side on loan from Fiorentina on deadline day. Ten Hag’s reasoning may have been influenced by the fact that Amrabat had been issued a yellow card in the first half.
Schmeichel said that he believed City could easily control the game since Amrabat was “so far off the pace.”
“I mean, he makes a change at half time, there’s a reason for that because it wasn’t working in midfield,” Schmeichel told Premier League Productions as reported by Manchester Evening News. “Amrabat was so far off the pace Man City basically could do whatever they wanted.
“And the chances, yes, we had chances but they all came from Manchester City mistakes, it wasn’t like we were creating anything.”

Since he made his debut against Crystal Palace in the 3rd round of the Carabao cup, Amrabat has been an ever present for the Red Devils.
The Morocco international will hope to replicate the performances during his Fiorentina days which made his newfound club pull the deal to sign him on the deadline day of the summer transfer window.
