Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu has urged the Super Eagles interim coach, Austine Eguavoen to focus on the goalkeeping department of the team ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff against the Black Stars of Ghana.
Ghana will host the first leg of the tournament on March 25, before traveling to Nigeria for the return fixture four days later.
However, Shorunmu in a chat with Completesports.com, stated that the technical crew must show more attention in selecting a reliable goalkeeper that will man the post against Ghana.
“Even though I know that we have quality players that can get the job done against the Black Stars of Ghana, however, I am still worried that we don’t have so much confidence in the goalkeeping department.
“We must avoid the same error that cost Nigeria the game against Tunisia if the team must qualify for the World Cup in Qatar. The tehnical crew must focus on the goalkeeping department before Ghana clash.”
Nigeria are seeking to qualify for the World Cup a seventh time and, since 1994, have missed only one of seven editions. The last of three appearances by Ghana was in 2014.
