Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Andrew Aikhoumogbe has appealed to the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr to select players that will represent Nigeria at the fast approaching 2021 Africa Cup of Nations based on merit if the team must win the trophy.
In an interview with Completesports.com from his Cairo base in Egypt, Aikhoumogbe stated that he’s not concerned with the move by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to sack the German tactician but more worried on the preparedness of the team for the tournament.
With the Nations Cup commencing on January 9, 2022, Aikhoumogbe urged the NFF to focus more on the team success and how Rohr can really get the best from the players in Cameroon.
“This is not the time the Nigeria Football Federation should be talking about sacking Rohr with the Africa Cup of Nations set to commence January 9. Barely few weeks to go and we don’t really have any concrete plan for the Super Eagles.
“At this stage, we should be talking about how Rohr can select the right players based on merit if the team must succeed in Cameroon. We have many Super Eagles players painting Europe with goals and others helping their respective clubs succeed in Europe. No doubt, if Rohr selects the right players, Nigeria will conquer Africa.”
