Newcastle United’s deal with AC Milan for Sandro Tonali will have no bearing on the club’s pursuit of James Maddison, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Fabrizio Romano, in an interview with Caught Offside, asserted that the Magpies are looking to sign both players this summer as Eddie Howe tries to upgrade his midfield options.
Maddison has been a key target for the Premier League club this summer, with much speculation around the 26-year-old.
However, Howe’s team will have to contend with league rival Tottenham Hotspur, who are also interested in the playmaker from Leicester City.
Fabrizio Romano has stated that Spurs still hold the advantage in the competition for the Foxes star. The transfer guru, though, thinks that Howe is still trying to get the deal with Leicester approved.

According to Romano through Caught Offside, “My understanding at the moment is that this signing wouldn’t necessarily affect the interest in James Maddison – for now.
“Tottenham are pushing for the Leicester City midfielder, but Newcastle are not giving up either.”
Leicester are reportedly hoping to earn in excess of £60m in the sale of Maddison.
However, the Championship side won’t settle for anything below the £50m mark.
