Fan Travels 4000 Miles To Watch Star Player In AFCON Qualifiers

A West Ham United fan travelled all the way from England down to Ghana, just to watch Mohammed Kudus live in action as the Black Stars played Central African Republic in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Following a 2-1 victory over the Wild Beasts on Thursday night at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Ghana finished first in Group E with 12 points. Securing their spot in the AFCON for next year.

Standing-in captain Louis Mafouta gave the Central African Republic an early advantage. Raoul Savoy’s team needed a victory to have a chance of competing in the tournament in January of next year.

But shortly before halfway, West Ham new acquisition, Kudus equalised for Ghana. And Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo set up the winning goal by dislodging the opposing defense and selflessly laying the ball off for 19-year-old Ernest Nuamah to score from close range.

While Black Stars supporters will be celebrating across Ghana, one West Ham fan will feel especially fulfilled for traveling from the UK to watch the match.

The game was played in the Ashanti Region of the African nation. A 4,000-mile journey.

The supporter, who was wearing a West Ham jersey and cap, was recorded saying before the game that he was at the Baba Yara stadium to watch “Mohammed Kudus, our new signing.” And that the 23-year-old is “a very skilled player, very strong.”

Kudus signed a five-year contract with a one-year option with West Ham from Ajax last week. The total estimated value of the deal, including add-ons, was roughly £38 million.
