FC Barcelona Star Renews Contract Until 2029

Barcelona initially stated that Fermin Lopez, a top player for the first squad, had extended his contract until 2029 in an official statement made to the media on Thursday afternoon, reports Forbes.

“First team player Fermin Lopez and FC Barcelona have agreed to extend his contract, keeping him with the team until June 30, 2029.

The announcement stated that the termination clause was set at €500 million ($544 million).

“The Barcelona midfielder signed his new contract this Thursday at noon in an event with the president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, Rafa Yuste; the manager responsible for Formative Football, Joan Soler and the Club’s sports director, Anderson Luis de Souza ‘ Deco’,” said the statement.

Despite having gone through Barca’s La Masia academy, Fermin did not have the same fairy tale journey to the first team as his colleagues like Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi.

Before being transferred on loan to third division Linares, Fermin made just one appearance with Barca B, now known as Barca Atletic, while those young talents made their professional debuts at the ages of 15 and 17 under former head coach Xavi Hernandez.

However, Fermin gained the confidence and playing time that had previously been lacking in the seniors there.

After impressing Xavi in training upon his return to the Catalans, the Andalusian was selected for Barca’s 2023 preseason tour of the United States.
