Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes has reportedly revealed that his teammates’ collective spirit was the key behind their dramatic comeback derby win against Manchester City on Sunday.
Trailing 1-0 with three minutes of regular time to play, United were given a golden opportunity to earn themselves a point when Amad was tripped inside the box by Matheus Nunes. Fernandes stepped up to take up the ensuing penalty, and restored parity with two minutes of normal time left.
However, United went one better, scoring a second goal in the final minute of normal time when Lisandro Martinez’s long ball was met by Amad, who lifted the ball over Ederson and then finished to seal an unlikely win.
It marked the Red Devils’ first win at the Etihad since March 2021 and according to Manchester Evening News, Fernandes felt it was rooted from their refusal to give up and accept defeat.

“Of course,” Fernandes told MUTV when asked if it was important if United rose to the challenge collectively. “We always have to do it as a team.
“If the team believes, and even sometimes when we shake a little bit and we need one, two or three players to show that the belief is still there, we still have a chance of winning the game and still have a chance of getting a result.
